Resonant Bodywork 12 CEU Live Course

Learning Objectives

NCBTMB 1002752

Course overview:

Somatic Guarding is the body’s protective response to stress, physical pain, and emotional trauma. This response is helpful and appropriate until it creates an adaptation where the system becomes stuck in an overprotective loop. This course is for those who return to us again and again with the same stubborn pain patterns. Often our go-to technique is to push, whether it is deep tissue or effleurage and petrissage. These are classic bodywork techniques for a reason, but used alone they don't offer the pattern interruption potency of resonance, vibration, and movement. When working with a client who is experiencing deep somatic patterning and holding, vibration and tapotement can be deeply impactful. These techniques activate healthy muscle function, encourage proper circulation in the body, regulate a hyper or hypo responsive nervous system, and help our clients connect with their systems in a whole new way.

Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn how somatic guarding presents in the soft tissue.

  • Students will learn the neurological pathway of somatic guarding and why it leads to soft tissue tension, reduced range of motion, and chronic pain patterns.

  • Students will learn the subtle body communication channels of vibration and resonance.

  • Students will learn how somatic guarding impacts the shoulder anatomy and the held “fight” response.

  • Students will be able to demonstrate massage therapy techniques to improve shoulder function and decrease the pain and inflammation associated with somatic guarding.

  • Students will develop an understanding of the physics of movement, inertia, and kinetic energy.

  • Students will learn how somatic guarding impacts the hip and pelvis anatomy and the held “flight” response.

  • Students will be able to demonstrate massage therapy techniques to improve hip function and decrease pain and inflammation associated with somatic guarding.

  • Students will develop an understanding of the relationship between the pelvic floor and voice activation (The jaw/ hip connection).

  • Students will be able to proficiently demonstrate a full applied technique demonstration.
